The first of a collection of posts I plan to make about my OCs to lay out their base lore properly! For the first one, I’ll be laying out some of the groundwork for my most popular OC, Ashtoreth, along with a character and group closely tied to her.
Before we get started, my OCs are split into three groups, UV “A”, UV “B” and UV “C”. While all three groups are connected within the same overarching plot, they each reside within their own time period and story. The vast majority of my OCs reside within UV “C”. While not a trick- they just reside in the middle of the story, lore wise- UV “B” actually contains my oldest OCs, but we’ll get to them in due time. All this is important to me, but for your case, all this really means is that you probably won’t ever see me drawing characters from different UVs interacting. Anyway, enough rambling, let’s go!
// ASHTORETH // – LOST DEMON – HONEY I’M HOME
Ashtoreth is a demon, trapped within a plane of existence close to our own, but warped and twisted. It is apparently completely devoid of life, except for herself. Through her studying, she was able to find our plane, one that was close enough in similarity to her earlier life before her world twisted around her that she may be able to insert herself into it. She can see into our world for short periods of time, but with very minimal accuracy, with no way to select location or time period. Her method essentially selects a soul at random (as she has no “anchor”) and allows her to see the environment around them, though they cannot see her.
She is extraordinarily manipulative and very rarely smiles, and aside from belittling others in a way that may seem like jokes, is generally very direct, serious and to the point. She knows what she wants and does not enjoy wasting time. She can be quite cowardly, however. If things are derailing heavily enough from her plans, she can get quite flustered and will attempt to leave the situation as soon as she can. That’s not to say she can’t put up a formidable fight if she is cornered, but she will not allow herself to be put in harm’s way if she can avoid it. She is not inherently evil and does not value senseless death. However, if she believes it would be beneficial to achieving her goals or solving a significant issue, she has no qualms about loss of life.
Ashtoreth’s most defining feature is that her presence alone will slowly (days to years to centuries depending on various factors) corrupt, manipulate and leach out the life of everything around her. Ashtoreth has no control over this and at times acts in complete denial that it is even happening. Organisms that have been around Ashtoreth for too long and reach a certain threshold begin transforming physically into creatures or objects more befitting a horrorscape atmosphere that matches her plane.
// LUNA // – HOPE ABANDONED – KULT
Luna was at one point a nun but became disillusioned and separated from her church. She was severely depressed, keeping entirely to herself and excluding herself from society, believing to be utterly and completely alone. She planned to commit suicide but botched her attempt. The state she was left in, teetering on the edge of life and death, blurred the line and allowed Luna to briefly interact with Ashtoreth. Although their interaction was brief, Ashtoreth was able to quickly seize the opportunity and swiftly convince Luna that she was there to “save” her and made a pact with her.
Following this, Luna acts as Ashtoreth’s anchor to this reality. She is able to freely communicate with her, even allowing Ashtoreth to inhabit and pilot her body for ever increasing periods of time. The consequences of this are already clear, with Luna going blind in her right eye and her hair beginning to turn the same shade as Ashtoreth’s. The extent these changes will reach is yet to be seen, but Luna has no complaints, becoming seemingly closer to her goddess with every passing day.
Luna’s earlier demeanor was very shy, nervous and unsure. Following her infatuation with Ashtoreth, she is now extremely confident. Having a clear motivation has solidified her, as she is an anchor to Ashtoreth, Ashtoreth is an anchor to her. Aside from her tendency to at minimum wear a nun’s headdress no matter her other clothing, she is able to present herself as relatively normal. If she is allowed the opportunity to talk of Ashtoreth however, this façade will fall apart almost immediately- her absolute and unwavering obsession becoming clear.
Luna’s mission, now, is to help Ashtoreth escape the plane she is stuck in. Her plan is simple, under Ashtoreth’s guidance she has begun to form a cult, weaving a convoluted tale of an unfairly imprisoned angel who will offer untold rewards to those who help with her escape. Using this cult, they can begin using the members to perform rituals, experiments and any other manner of idea to free Ashtoreth.
// THE CULT // – THE CHOSEN – LET ME IN
Ashtoreth is, very clearly, a demon- however, those in the cult view her much, much differently.
With a combination of tales, magical influences and visions which Luna bestows upon soon to be believers with Ashtoreth’s help, members of the cult believe Ashtoreth to be a holy being robbed of her freedom and falsely imprisoned within the reality she is found in. They view her as such- a winged, angelic being, her halo a glistening gold, her horns nonexistent. They have been convinced that the version of Ashtoreth that others see is the result of a curse or seal, one they are not affected by after seeing the truth. These delusions are also reflected upon Ashtoreth’s ability to morph her surroundings, viewing the corruption as angelic, and those who have been transformed as having been granted their “true forms”
Although some are willing and easily fall, these influences do not work on everyone. Whether it is a strong will, knowledge of Ashtoreth’s true motivations or other factors, it is possible to resist these false visions and see Ashtoreth for what she is. Intense levels of indoctrination against those who initially resist can cause them to have trouble discerning reality from fiction, their knowing mind attempting to fight the false visions, the success of which can vary wildly.
